Eaglecrest prepares for New Year's fireworks
JUNEAU - Eaglecrest Ski Area will host its annual New Year's Day fireworks show on Saturday, Jan. 1, whether or not the hill is open.
The Musical Friends of Eaglecrest, a group of local musicians organized by Teri Tibbett, will start playing at 3 p.m. The fireworks show begins at 5 p.m. The afternoon includes hot drinks, snacks, food and hospitality tents. The Eaglecrest cafeteria will also be open.
Symphony calls for musicians for 2005
JUNEAU - The Juneau Symphony will begin rehearsing for its winter concerts next week and is welcoming new musicians for its 2005 season.

The first rehearsal is 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, in the Juneau-Douglas High School band room. The first performance of the year is 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at the high school auditorium.
The orchestra will perform Mahler's "Symphony No. 1," Grieg Piano's "Concerto No. 1 in A minor (first movement)" and Handel's "Overture to the Royal Fireworks."

Trostel, Smith plan evening of Americans
JUNEAU - Trumpeter Rick Trostel and pianist Doug Smith will present a concert of American composers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The program includes Herbert Clarke, Eric Ewazen, George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein.
Tickets are $10 at Hearthside Books or at the door. Students are allowed in free with a paying ticket holder.
There will be a free preview at noon Jan. 7, at the State Office Building, and several school shows - Tuesday morning, Harborview Elementary; Wednesday morning, Glacier Valley Elementary; Thursday morning, Floyd Dryden Middle School; and Friday morning, Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School.
Libaries to resume storytime program
JUNEAU - Juneau Public Librar-ies will resume its storytime program on Jan. 3, and continue until May.
The schedule is as follows: Mondays, 10 a.m., toddlertime, downtown library; 11 a.m., toddlertime, Valley library; Wednesdays, 11 a.m., storytime, downtown library; Thursdays, 11 a.m., storytime, Douglas library; Fridays, 11 a.m., storytime, Valley library.
