He hiked along the river north of Juneau with a friend, at one point jumping off a section of breaking ice. It was the first time in his 24 years in Juneau that he saw the waterway frozen but without any snow on it.
"I knew the rivers were frozen, and it was kind of a unique opportunity," he said.
