Juneau resident Dorothy "Dottie" A. Garolis, 79, died Dec. 25, 2003, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
Born Jan. 27, 1924, she was the last of seven children born to Jennie Larsen Baltes and John Baltes of Kenosha, Wis.
"She made friends easily and passionately loved all creatures great and small, music, singing, reading and the beauty and majesty of Alaska, where she had chosen to remain eternally," said family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward "Eddie," and son-in-law, Frank A. Balestreri.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Balestreri of Arvada, Colo., and Cathy (Richard) Luther of Juneau; granddaughters, Jennie and Christina Balestreri of Arvada; brother, Ray (Betty) Garolis of Waukegan, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Jan. 2, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Alaskan Memorial Park Mortuary in Juneau. A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m., Jan. 3, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 9055 Atlin Ave., in Juneau. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church or your local humane society.
