It was a picturesque evening at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park, and the Crimson Bears were picture perfect.

Juneau-Douglas scored early and often, rolling to a 68-0 shutout win over Thunder Mountain in the inaugural Glacier Bowl battle between the new crosstown rivals.

It was the first meeting between the teams on the gridiron, with the deeper Bears outmanning the Falcons. TMHS is in the new Medium Schools classification, while JDHS plays in the Large Schools division.

Thunder Mountain hopes its next trick is to pick up its first playoff win in school history.

“That was a second-year program going 8-0, and that’s something that doesn’t happen a whole lot,” Falcons football coach Bill Byouer said. “But our goal for this year is to make it through the first round of the playoffs.

The ASBN Preseason Football Poll was released Monday with Thunder Mountain checking in at No. 3 in the Small Schools division.

Juneau-Douglas received votes but did not crack the top five of the Large Schools division.

The two local schools face off for the first time ever in the inaugural Glacier Bowl at 8 p.m. Saturday at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Park.
