The Thunder Mountain High School track and field team swept the overall boys and girls titles at the Ketchikan Invitational over the weekend, claiming 16 first place finishes and a host of seconds.

“We are extremely pleased with how we competed this weekend,” TMHS coach Scott May said. “It was just an incredible performance by many of the athletes here from all the schools.”

The Juneau-Douglas High School boy’s soccer team is off to a good start on the road in Washington, playing to ties against Spokane soccer powers Ferris and Mead over the weekend.

The Crimson Bears had to battle back from an early deficit against the Ferris Saxons on Friday.

Senior Jackson Lehnhart had an early shot on goal hit a sprinkler head and deflected into the cross bar.

The Saxons then went on a scoring binge, tallying at the four-minute mark, the 13-minute, 27th minute and on a last second shot before the half.

Juneau-Douglas High School all-state selection Gabi Fenumiai had 12 points in the first half for the Crimson Bears and the Kodiak Lady Bears’ Hannah Wandersee 10 as the two carried their respective teams in a battle for fourth place the 2013 ASAA state 4A Girl’s Basketball Tournament in Anchorage’s Sullivan Arena on Saturday.

Wandersee won the scoring edge Kodiak won the game but it was not without a solid effort across the roster by JDHS.

The Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears girl’s basketball team opened the 2013 state high school class 4A basketball tournament with a 56-23 loss to the number-one-ranked Wasilla Warriors.

Anchorage’s Sullivan Arena was familiar territory to both these teams as they have battled in each of the past three tournaments with varying outcomes. This time the Warriors opened a 19-5 first quarter lead to seize momentum.

“It was a tough game,” JDHS coach Dee Boster said. “We played hard, but we played a better team than us.”
