Born in Portland, Oregon, into a Marine Corps family. Moved from pillar to post until dad retired near Camp Pendleton in Vista, California. Married Doug 3 days before he had to report into U.S. Coast Guard station in Alameda. We moved from place to place - our son was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and our daughter was born in San Diego. We were stationed in Juneau from 1977 to 1980. It was the first place I'd ever lived where I fell in love with the place before I met a soul. When it came time for our last move, I told my husband that I wanted to go back to Juneau and stay there. I wanted to be in a job more than 2 years and see what I could do. If my neighbor got pregnant, I wanted to see that baby grow and go to college. If I planted a tree, I wanted to see it grow. So, we came back to Juneau in 1989. I got an entry level job at the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute and was appointed Executive Director in 1997. I absolutely love this city and the astounding scenery that I see out my window every single day. My neighbor did indeed have two children. One graduated from Harvard this year and the other is at Georgetown. Our trees are mature. Just as I visualized.
