Getting To & Around Juneau

By Air

Daily jet service offers the quickest, easiest access to Juneau. Alaska Airlines is the only jet service provider to Juneau and offers daily connections north from Seattle and south from Anchorage. Jet service is also available from Juneau to other southeast communities including Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg and Ketchikan. For flight reservations visit www.alaskaair.com or call 800-252-7522. A variety of small commuter air carriers offer scheduled service and charters to surrounding communities and villages such as Gustavus (gateway to Glacier Bay), Haines, Skagway, Pelican, Elfin Cove, Hoonah, and Angoon.

By Sea

The capital city is a popular port call for large and small cruise lines, as well as a port for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS). The ferry system serves as Southeast's main marine transportation system. It connects the smaller Southeast communities with each other, as well as with the regional centers of commerce and government and other transportation systems. The ferry system recently won All American Road status, the highest honor for a roadway in the United States. 1-800-642-0066 or www.ferryalaska.com

Getting Around Town

Juneau's main highway extends about 45 miles along the mountainous coastline. While most attractions in town are easily accessible by public transit or private transport services, the option to set your own schedule is possible with a variety of rental car providers. The public bus system, called Capital Transit, is a popular mode of transportation for locals and visitors. Bus tour operators, taxis and limo service are affordable options for easy transport to Mendenhall Glacier and other local attractions and historical sites.
