Fairbanks man hit by 2 cars dies from injuries

FAIRBANKS — Police say a pedestrian who was hit by two vehicles while crossing a busy Fairbanks street has died from his injuries.

Sam Kanayurak Jr., was taken to Anchorage with life-threatening injuries after being struck shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day. Police say the 57-year-old died Thursday at Alaska Native Medical Center.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that Kanayurak’s birthday was on New Year’s Eve, and he was struck in front of many witnesses outside a bar.

Sobriety tests at the scene determined the drivers who hit Kanayurak were not impaired.
