Cruise passenger dies near Mendenhall Glacier

Woman suffered medical emergency on Nugget Falls trail, CCFR says

A woman died after suffering a medical emergency on the trail to Nugget Falls near the Mendenhall Glacier on Sunday, Juneau Police Department Lt. Krag Campbell said Monday.

The woman was a cruise ship passenger, Capital City Fire/Rescue Assistant Chief Ed Quinto said in an interview Monday morning. Quinto declined to give many details, citing health privacy laws, but said CCFR personnel responded to the area when they got a call that the woman was having a medical emergency.

Responders arrived, but did not transport the woman, Quinto said. Campbell didn’t have many details, he said via email, because the officers who responded to the scene will not be back in the office until Wednesday. Campbell said the woman died on the scene, but he said he didn’t have any further information.
