This year’s Halloween will be the biggest ever for downtown Juneau’s business district, as 71 businesses will be participating in trick-or-treating.
Businesses plan to give out candy or products of theirs geared toward children. For example, Shoefly will give out shoelaces or candy, Sketch Studio will offer one-minute art activities and Aurora Projekt will give away stickers.
The event will run from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 in downtown Juneau. Participating businesses will have orange balloons and signs reading “trick-or-treating here” on their doors.
Kindred Post owner Christy NaMee Eriksen organized the first event in 2014. It’s expanded since then, as the number of participating businesses and organizations has doubled.
“I’m inspired by the way neighborhoods come together to celebrate Halloween, and I wondered why we didn’t do that in the downtown core,” Eriksen said in a press release. “For me it was never just about handing out treats, it was about inviting people into our neighborhood. We want to send the message that everyone is welcome here.”
