A Saturday morning blaze in Switzer Village resulted in the total loss of a double-wide trailer. The home didn’t have any humans inside during the fire, but fire crew found a dead dog in the burned-out structure and two live cats, which were given over to animal control.
Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to Switzer Village in Lemon Creek to the residential structure fire at about 8 a.m. Saturday.
They found a mobile home consumed by fire and smoke. Fire crew extinguished the fire shortly after that and the Fire Marshal’s Office began an investigation into the fire’s origin, which is still unknown.
Investigators did learn that the fire started in the trailer’s arctic entry, near the front door, but the exact cause is still undetermined. Any information from interviews conducted during the investigation was still pending as of Saturday evening.
The structure is a total loss and it was unknown as of Saturday evening if it was insured. CCFR has asked that anyone with information, video or photos of this fire to contact Fire Marshal Daniel Jager at 586-0260. The Juneau Police Department is working with the Fire Marshal as well.
