A Lemon Creek Correctional Center inmate was indicted on two felonies this week for allegedly assaulting a fellow inmate.
Lorenzo A. Lopez, 27, faces two charges of second-degree assault for an altercation with Oleksandr Kryvoruchko at LCCC, according to an indictment dated Nov. 21.
On June 29 of this year, Lopez beat Kryvoruchko with his fists, according to the charging document. Kryvoruchko, 31, suffered a fracture to his right eye socket, a broken nose and fractures to his sinus wall, a doctor found. Surveillance footage captured the assault on film.
Lopez is currently in LCCC and is also still on probation from a previous assault, according to the indictment. Lopez was convicted of a felony for a 2016 assault that an Empire report at the time dubbed a “horrifying attack,” where he beat a woman and broke her jaw.
The new assault charges are for recklessly causing serious injury to another person and for causing injury with a dangerous weapon (his fists, in this case), the indictment states. Both charges are class C felonies.
Another Southeast Alaska man faces 13 counts that include sexual assault, sexual abuse of a minor and harassment. John M. Scott, 58, faces counts relating to non-consensual sexual contact in Gustavus over a span from 1999 to 2018. The indictment included two charges of first-degree sexual assault, five counts of second-degree sexual assault, two counts of fourth-degree sexual abuse of a minor and four counts of first-degree harassment.
There are two victims detailed in the indictment, including someone who was 16 or 17 when Scott grabbed her breasts on multiple occasions from 1999-2001 and performed sexual acts without her consent in the summer of 2001, the indictment alleges. Scott touched a second victim’s buttocks on multiple occasions from 2013-2018, according to the indictment. The indictment doesn’t list how Scott knew the two victims, but states that Scott was in a position of authority over the first victim. None of the charges are domestic violence charges.
The indictment, which is from a Juneau grand jury, is dated Dec. 6. Six of the charges are misdemeanors and seven are felonies.
