A Juneau man died Saturday from a gunshot wound to the head, according to a Juneau Police Department press release.
The man, identified as 63-year-old Juneau resident Bruce Alan Owens, had gone with a friend to a business in the 1700 block of Crest Street for recreational shooting, according to the release. There were witnesses and the shooting was caught on the store’s video surveillance system, police say, and there was no indication of a disturbance or any other problem prior to the shooting.
JPD Lt. Krag Campbell would not explicitly say whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but said the gunshot was not accidental, there was no foul play and there’s no threat to the community.
Police responded to the scene at 2:07 p.m. Saturday, according to the release, and Capital City Fire/Rescue transported Owens to Bartlett Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Next of kin has been notified, and Owens’ body will be flown to the Alaska Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
