Two communitywide events are being held Monday in Juneau in observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
At 1 p.m., the Juneau Black Awareness Association will be hosting its annual event at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9055 Atlin Drive, which features speakers, vocalists and more. This year’s theme is “Guardians of the Dream…Us.” It’s free and open to the public.
Monday also marks the 10th annual MLK Day Free Legal Help clinic, where legal professionals will give free advice to people in four Alaska communities.
Volunteer attorneys will provide free legal help in Juneau, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Palmer. Juneau is holding two sessions. The first will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Alaska Legal Services Corporation, located at 8800 Glacier Highway, Suite 228. The second will run from 1-4 p.m. at the Dimond Courthouse on Fourth Street downtown.

Attendees will can meet with lawyers about subjects including child custody, child support, divorce, employment, eviction, foreclosure, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and other non-criminal issues.
