I am deeply concerned that the president has decided not to certify the Iran deal.
This decision makes it more likely that Iran will develop a nuclear weapon, and it also puts our country on a collision course toward war with Iran.
Now, U.S. Rep. Don Young and U.S. Sens. Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, must do everything in their power to save the Iran deal by rejecting sanctions and standing up for diplomacy.
President Donald Trump’s decision to decertify the Iran deal contradicts the international consensus that the deal is working and that Iran is complying. As the U.S. intelligence community and eight consecutive reports from the International Atomic Energy have verified, Tehran has fully complied with the nuclear accord.
Even Defense Secretary James Mattis recently testified to Congress that staying in the Iran deal is in the national security interests of the United States. That’s because the deal prevents Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and prevents yet another war in the Middle East. It’s ultimately up to Congress to determine the deal’s future.
Within the next two months, Congress will vote on whether to reinstate sanctions on Iran that were lifted by the deal. Rep. Young and Sens. Sullivan and Murkowski must vote against sanctions to save the Iran deal and prevent war.
