As the session kicks off, I’d first like to thank all the legislators and representatives for their hard work in serving Alaskans.
As they listen to testimonies and discuss bills and budgets for hours on end, I pray they evaluate their priority list as to what is the most important way they can truly govern and protect Alaskan people, and that is to ensure their lives are protected from conception to natural death. First and foremost, people have to at least be given a chance to exist, this is the most basic right there is. What good do laws and bills do if people aren’t even alive to experience them.
With the anniversary of Roe v. Wade approaching, I hope the leaders of Alaska will remember the 60,000,000 children who have been murdered through no fault of their own. They were each made in the image of God, with a purpose and gifts and talents, and we who survived are no more or less important then those who were killed.
For those legislators who believe it’s a women’s right to have her child killed, they might want to hear the testimonies of many of those same women who years later who grieve their child or children and regret their loss. Each and every child is a grand blessing, even if there’s financial struggles or personal issues, that does not in any way take away the value of the new person that has been wonderfully and fearfully made. Every single person deserves the basic right to exist and live out their journey in this world, regardless of race or gender or income.
So as the votes come in and the commmitees gather together, I would ask them to put the issue of life first and as the highest priority.
I’d like to leave with this verse in Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart.”
