Letter: Alaska more supportive of accused killer than family of slain cop

I was appalled, angry and disgusted when I learned that Mrs. Natasha Brandt, the wife of slain police officer Sgt. Allen Brandt, would have her health insurance terminated Oct. 31. The city of Fairbanks has since offered her health coverage for the remainder of the year. Sgt. Brandt was assassinated and later died of complications following his surgery.

The assassin will have a roof over his head, three meals each day, free medical care, and various recreational programs. He has lost his freedom. Sgt. Brandt has lost his life, his wife Natasha, and four children. His loss is our loss.

I think this is the time for the State of Alaska to assist Mrs. Brandt by compensating her for her loss. If the “Do Nothing Legislature” can serve one term and be compensated with a pension for life, something should be done for Mrs. Brandt and her children at this time.
