The Assembly calls letting people shoot off fireworks from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2 and from July 3 to July 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. at night an ordinance that going to solve the problem that so many people are mad about. That’s when the problem exists. Why can’t the city ban personal use fireworks completely like Anchorage does? If a big city like Anchorage can do it, why can’t we? Juneau puts on a wonderful display that should be enough for people to enjoy. A few people can ruin it for their entire neighborhood by blowing houseshaking, dogscaring, sleeprobbing fireworks for hours on end. Every year I just dread the Fourth of July. It should be a fun day to look forward to; instead it is just a day to watch my dog shake, pant and get sick. Assembly, put your big boy pants on and do something about this.
