Letter: Consider moving into a school rather than a new City Hall

I do not support Proposition No. 1.

We have already said no to the new City Hall, as proposed, whether it is because of the site, building, parking limitations or cost. Or maybe all of these.

With school enrollment still on the decline, why not think about combining a couple and repurpose a school into a City Hall. They are already city-owned, have plenty of space and lots of parking.

Maybe then the $16.3 million already appropriated in general funds could outfit the school into the “City Hall” and the money saved not paying rent could go to building maintenance.

I am a lifelong Alaskan, moving to Juneau from Anchorage in 1957. I worked for the State of Alaska highway maintenance for five years then went into business for myself as an excavation contractor. After retiring, I worked for CBJ airfield maintenance for five seasons.
