In the 12 years I served on the assembly, three of them as mayor of our community, Cathy Munoz has worked hard to make Juneau a great capitol city. She developed relationships with legislators from all over the state and was successful in keeping capitol move legislation from going forward.
Because of her position on the House Finance Committee, she was able to secure funding for much-needed projects including roads, harbors, water/sewer projects, improvements to schools, a new library and Thunder Mountain High School.
As the community struggles with housing shortages, Cathy got legislation passed (HB 146) that provided the assembly with the option to abate taxes on newly subdivided land until it is sold or a building permit is granted.
This year, Cathy’s legislation to develop Sweetheart Lake Hydro Project (HB 143) was signed into law. When this project is completed it will give Juneau 25 percent more clean hydro energy and provide much-needed jobs.
Juneau is a vibrant community with a new museum, the Sealaska Heritage Institute, great harbors and recreational opportunities, such as Eagle Beach cabins, and a new student residence hall at UAS. All of these projects received funding because of Cathy’s efforts on the House Finance Committee.
As the state faces huge budget deficits, Juneau needs an experienced and effective representative; Juneau needs Cathy Muñoz in the House.
