Letter: In support of Karen Crane for mayor

I am writing to thank Karen Crane for her willingness to run for Juneau’s mayor. I feel confident she will do a fine job. She has served six years on the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly, and is current with all the issues facing our community.

In her time on the Assembly, she has shown herself to be fair and pragmatic, bringing people together to make difficult decisions. I spent 30 years as an educator and appreciate her commitment to full funding for education and her active support for the Mendenhall Valley public library. Her many years of policy and administrative service in state government prepares her to deal with the issues Juneau will face as the state deals with our revenue shortage.

Elected officials on the Alaska Municipal League showed their recognition of her qualities by electing her their president. I am confident that Karen will carry forward the vision of Mayor Greg Fisk, with whom she worked closely. Please join me in voting for Karen Crane for mayor March 15.

Mary Claire Harris,

Juneau
