Letter: Margaret Stock welcomed in Senate race

I welcome Margaret Stock into the race for the United States Senate and I thank her for her service to the United States of America. Margaret Stock is a very smart person, and she works very hard. Alaskans are lucky that a person of her caliber has decided to run for the U.S. Senate. We may be the only state in the Union to have a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” award running for the Senate. We are truly blessed.

However, given the fact that one in four women in America has been raped, and that one in three women in the U.S. military has been raped, I have to wonder if Stock would not better use her Washington insider problem solving skills on the issue of the rape of women in the United States military. It is appalling that a woman is more likely to be raped if she is serving the USA as a member of the military than if she was a civilian.

No doubt Stock will have an answer to this problem. I look forward to hearing it.
