Our senators must help end ‘sideshow nightmare’ of gun violence
Senators Murkowski and Sullivan, as proxies in our Senate, you now govern an electorate, at least 80% of whom are pleading for you both to enhance the background checking and better control the spread of semi-automatic and fully automatic machine guns civilian offered — not to mention pistols like Glocks and the 3-D printed so-called “ghost guns.” Securing our state and nation from the armed insurrectionists running around without their usual white hoods, but Trump enamored, all over the country — and through its Atlanta spas, Boulder, Colorado grocery stores, Virginia Beach intersections, etc. —ought legitimately be of your primary homeland security concern.
This irresponsibly owned, and the online purchased, or the same day bought, unsecured proliferation of assault weapons, long guns and handguns of any and all sorts, must be arrested. Our institutions are turning into warzones and your election to cultural authority demands some action be taken to better secure this civilization.
The culture — our culture — cannot function productively in perpetual fear of wayward artillery. The next generation cannot learn and blossom in an environment where homicidal maniacs, with impulse responding triggers at their fingertips, can lurk! As enfranchised adults, we are all responsible and must endure the consequences. Our children, on the other hand, cannot be sanctioned as “ducks” at some “Something Evil This Way Comes” (Bradbury) carnival shooting gallery.
From Columbine to Sandy Hook to Parkland, our nation has become a sideshow nightmare from which we cannot awaken, even to console our own children from what they might imagine! As our Senate delegates, refute your NRA-affiliated financiers and contain this profit-driven social suicide.
John S. Sonin,
Douglas
