Letter: Running rogue

Does the Assembly really think that Juneau is so uninformed that we can’t figure out that a few key members on the Assembly are running rogue? Here they are saying that the City and Borough of Juneau has limited money and everyone has to sacrifice. Now, the Assembly not only considered but voted for holding a special election for mayor. Why should we citizens of Juneau have to pay $35,000 just to have a new mayor in place a few months ahead of when a regular election would take place? If we didn’t have money for seniors sale tax exemptions and other things, why should we have this election?

When our beloved Mayor Greg Fisk died, Deputy Mayor Mary Becker stepped in and took over to complete the mayor duties. May I ask what changed in the few months time where the Assembly unanimously voted Mary Becker for deputy mayor to decide that Mayor Becker was unfit for duty as mayor?

I believe Juneau can see that we have a few key people on our Assembly that have gone rogue, decided to use the death of Greg Fisk to their advantage to climb the political ladder. It is up to Juneau to vote for someone who is levelheaded, not looking to climb up the political ladder, and really wants what is best for the good of Juneau and not for themselves. It is my upmost belief that Ken Koelsch is such a man. My Vote is for Ken Koelsch come March 15. I urge all of Juneau to send a firm message to the Assembly that we are watching and we expect better from them.
