I hear and respect Ben Brown’s opinion on building a new Juneau Arts and Culture (JACC) building in Juneau, but with the decrease in population figures in Juneau for the last couple years, is this something we should be doing?
Brown has a sharper pencil than I do when estimating the cost, where the money will come from and the profits to be made in just a few years. My estimates are we will be subsidizing this monster forever more.
I would like to see the people of Juneau — and not the Assembly — vote on spending millions of dollars on this project.
Maybe the Assembly should concentrate on how to retain state jobs and the Capitol here in Juneau, rather than spending money on a nice-to-have project.
A five-month tourism window can attract some money. Unfortunately, there are seven more months in a year.
