Opinion: A yes vote on Prop 2 is important for Juneau

“A good deed for our family, community and the next generation.”

It is not very often that we have the opportunity to do a good deed for our family, community and the next generation in a single good act. Proposition 2 on this year’s Juneau ballot gives us that very opportunity. Proposition 2 offers us the chance to take action that will provide our community with another public use cabin; a professionally turfed softball/baseball field; trail maintenance for trails around our community; and the resurfacing of the track at Adair-Kennedy used by high school athletes and the public at large. All of these are in high demand and afford families, youth and friends to gather and have quality recreation opportunities to maintain healthy body, mind and spirit.

I’ll not belabor all the reasons, as a 40-year resident, parent, coach, former executive of various Alaska Public services, I believe a yes vote on Prop 2 is important for Juneau. I simply offer this quote of Einstein and an expounded paraphrase, “A person starts to live when they can live outside themselves..” expounded on with, “I believe we are all here to do good. It is the responsibility of every human being to aspire to do something worthwhile, to make the world a better place than the one we found.”

Please vote, yes, on Proposition 2!
