Opinion: Good job, Juneau

I am so proud of the recent municipal election process here in Juneau. I was delighted to see new energy and interest in the election process by first-time voters, and candidates who ran for the first time ever for elected office. Campaigns focused on the key issues in Juneau today: economy, homelessness, childcare and housing, and candidates presented positive campaigns and positions that were respectful to other points of view. Added to this is the increasing numbers of voter turnout in the municipal elections!

During a week when national heated political debates and conflict regarding the U.S. Supreme Court confirmation process inundated our daily news feeds, it is so reassuring to see a bright spot in the political and electoral process where the concerns were about issues, and not personal jabs and partisan politics.

Bravo Juneau! We did ourselves proud!
