Current events bring me back to Sept. 11, 2001, and the U.S. post-9/11 response.
On April 28, 2003, the CBJ Assembly adopted Resolution Serial Number 2201 which, in summary, was critical of The Patriot Act.
At the time I was skeptical of the Assembly resolution.
Now, as I look back, I appreciate the stand our Assembly took in defense of civil liberties and freedoms as afforded by the US Constitution.
While the CBJ Assembly gesture was symbolic, I cannot emphasize enough the role that local government plays with regard to safeguarding its citizens from tyranny of all types.
I invite everyone to read this resolution, which is still online.
In closing I would suggest to local government at all levels that you never underestimate the role you play, and that you never let your role be usurped.
