I support the renovation of Centennial Hall and building the New JACC.
As a renter of both existing facilities, I know first-hand the need for the renovation and for the new facility.
I encourage my fellow citizens of Juneau to think about our larger concern, and that is the impression we make as Alaska’s capital city.
I compare Centennial Hall to the similar facility in Sitka and it’s embarrassing. Sitka renovated its convention center a few years ago, and to see that upgrade is to know why we need a make-over for Centennial Hall.
The New JACC is an estimable public/private/benefactor-financed project: $4.5 million in city funds (previously approved sales tax) and $20 million from private businesses and personal donations. It deserves our support.
Let’s step up to the plate and be the city we think we are.
