My initial reaction to Mr. Bird’s opinion published in the Empire March 10 was “Why would the Empire dignify such blather?”

Then my thinking shifted to some small degree of appreciation that our home town paper offered up a cautionary tale. Yes, there are still men out there, plenty of them, who construe their privilege to include agency over women’s bodies. Nobody wants to have an abortion, Mr. Bird. But sometimes it is the best choice for the woman making that difficult decision. It is not your decision. Get it? If you really cared about preventing abortions you would focus on legislation toward free vasectomies.
