I agree with Win Gruening’s recent column, saying we should look beyond how long Sen. Dan Sullivan has lived in Alaska. The real test is whether he stands with Alaskans or with corporate robber barons. So what does his record show?
[What makes an ‘authentic’ Alaskan]
As Department of Natural Resources Commissioner, Sullivan changed regulations to cut off public comment on projects. Then he re-issued exploratory permits to the Pebble Partnership. Is it a coincidence that he received over $650,000 since 2013 from oil and gas corporations, according to Open Secrets?
Alaskans desperately need health insurance during this pandemic. Sullivan has voted over and over again to repeal Obamacare. He voted to prohibit Medicare from negotiating drug costs, and to prohibit Alaskans from buying much cheaper drugs from Canada. Sullivan has taken campaign contributions from pharmaceutical companies. See a pattern here?
Recently news broke of Vladimir Putin offering cash bounties for American soldier deaths. Later, it was reported President Donald Trump called our veterans ‘suckers’ and ‘losers’. On both questions we’ve seen profiles in cowardice from Sullivan.
Earlier this summer, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell adjourned the Senate and slinked out of town without extending cash assistance to laid-off Alaskans. Sullivan should have forced the Senate to extend help to Alaskans facing hardship. Instead he sold us out, for access to McConnell’s spigot of corporate campaign loot.
It seems “Dollar Dan” Sullivan is a bought and paid for tool of the corporate elites. He is selling us down the river. He needs to be shown the door.
