A thorough assessment of the fitness for duty of Govs. Bill Walker and Mike Dunleavy shows Walker is vastly more able and likely to succeed in the next four years.
Walker’s tenure was characterized by progress toward resolution of Alaska state government’s addiction to drawing Permanent Fund cash to finance itself. He responded appropriately and in a timely fashion to adverse, unanticipated events during his administration.
In contrast, Dunleavy’s regime has maintained a constant state of discord through engagement in the unrealistic fight to return a large amount of permanent fund cash directly to the public. Simultaneously, his followers have stoked the divisive “controversy” about COVID-19 vaccination that results in Alaska having the third highest incidence of that malady in the United States , according to Statista.
