For the first time in recent history, America could take substantive action on tax reform. Small business owners like myself could see the benefits of a simplified code friendly to our customers and bookkeepers. As it currently stands, the code is over 75,000 pages – an astoundingly complicated mess that presents major hurdles for small business owners who already operate on lean resources and little time. But policymakers now have the opportunity to remove this burden of hiring expensive accountants, or spending long days preparing filings. Legislators on both sides of the aisle agree that tax reform is a priority, and America deserves to see action before the end of the year.
Senator Murkowski and Senator Sullivan: Alaskans appreciate your economic leadership – please seize this unique opportunity when the President and the Congress are aligned, and encourage your peers in the House achieve meaningful tax reform. Let’s change the fact that America has the highest corporate and business taxes of all the industrialized nations. Alaskan business owners could use the savings that will be passed on to consumers through lower prices, higher wages for employees, and one more shift that will help us grow our economy.
