Support the second amendment, but also some gun controls

I applaud our young people for standing up and protesting a totally unsatisfactory condition in America. I did not go to school 80 years ago in fear of being shot, wounded or killed, and our young people should not have to do that today.

As a hunter, gun owner, participant in several Army pistol teams and supporter of the second amendment, I appreciate guns and gun owners, and have lived all my life with gun controls.

When I started school, Thompson sub machine guns and sawed off shotguns were possible but not unless you spent a sizable sum to get a special permit to own such weapons. Doing the same today would limit people from buying AR15 and bumper stocks. Combining such a limit with better background checks might work today.

I appreciate our young people and believe we should listen to them and then act to correct the bad situation we have in America.

Thank you to reporter James Brooks and the Juneau Empire for your coverage of our young people and this important issue.
