I am voting yes on both propositions on the Oct. 3 ballot. Proposition 1 will extend the 1 percent sales tax and use our sales tax monies to repair and improve existing City and Borough of Juneau facilities. That is an appropriate use of our tax dollars. Proposition No. 2 will allow more flexibility in the bidding process. Juneau needs to maintain our local workforce and remember that local payroll recirculates through the economy. Our local contractors and construction companies have invested in expensive equipment, vehicles and tools. We should keep them working as much as possible. Both of these ballot propositions do that and deserve our support.
