The 42nd annual Alaska Folk Festival will bring performers from around the state and the world to Juneau for a week of music and dancing, April 4-10.
Guest artists this year are The Carper Family, an Austin-based group that “applies their signature, stunning three-part harmonies to bluegrass, old-time, country and swing tunes of the standard and original variety, pushing and honoring American musical traditions at every step,” according to the Folk Fest website. Musicians are Melissa Carper, who plays upright bass; Beth Chrisman, who plays fiddle; and Jenn Miori, who plays guitar. Sophia Johnson will join the trio on lead guitar.
Throughout the week, local and far-flung musicians will perform 15 minute sets, offer workshops, and host dances. For the complete schedule of events, and information about performers, visit www.akfolkfest.org.
