Local artist Averyl Veliz will facilitate a creative workshop at the Alaska State Library, Archives, and Museum for ages 6-12 on Saturday, Oct. 8. Veliz will lead a morning session from 9-11 a.m. and an afternoon session from 1-3 pm.
The workshop will begin with a tour of the museum galleries and a discussion of what it means for kids to “be Alaskan.” Participants will explore different Alaskan environments and the materials that are available within them, whether limited or plentiful. Kids will then create their own Alaskan environments and character scenes from a large array of artistic materials including clay, paints, felt, craft supplies and recycled odds and ends.
