Alaskans Afield to hold first class of 2017

Alaskans Afield first class of the 2017 season “Small Game Hunting & Field Dressing” will be held on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.

The two-part class will be taught by ADF&G Small Game Biologist Rick Merizon, who is not only an expert but also enthusiastic about sharing how ptarmigan, grouse and hare can make a tasty dinner. On day one, he’ll teach where to find them and what equipment is needed. Learn how to care for and field-dress small game with actual birds.

On day two, participants will learn to identify small game species and their preferred habitats. Attendees will have the opportunity to venture into the field with Merizon to observe hare, grouse and ptarmigan habitat.

Day one will happen at the Douglas Island ADF&G building from 6-9 p.m. and day two will take place at Eaglecrest Ski Area from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

The cost for both sessions is $20. Those under 18 attend free with a paying adult. Classes fill up fast, so sign up early online at http://alaskansafield.adfg.alaska.gov.
