As 2017 comes to a close, we at the American Red Cross of Alaska would like to express our appreciation and sense of loss for our very own Bob Bassett, who passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 5, 2017, leaving a hole in our hearts, as well as a legacy of kindness and wisdom. Bob was part of a wonderful Southeast Alaska Red Cross volunteer team that works hard to prevent and alleviate suffering in our communities.
Bob was so dedicated to serving the mission that he packed a Red Cross vest on his travels, leaving another in Juneau, ready to serve either while away with family or when he returned. Bob Bassett was large in life and large in his passing. As a Red Cross volunteer, you always knew you could count on Bob to listen, share, teach and to offer words of encouragement.
The Red Cross wishes to express a huge thank you to Bob and to his family for the days and years that he dedicated to our organization. Bob was a friend, a mentor, a counselor and a huge advocate for his community. From volunteering locally with the disaster team and in the office to multiple national disaster relief deployments or teaching health and safety classes at the Red Cross and at REACH, Bob was a true treasure and a special person.
