Annual barbecue for American Diabetes Association a success

The Mendenhall Flying Lions Club held their 21st annual Rib Barbecue on Nov. 5, benefiting the American Diabetes Association.

Once again, we owe the success of our barbecue to the people of Juneau and those merchants that donated their product, time, staff and facility. Because of your support, we will send approximately $3,200 to the Alaska Diabetes Association.

We appreciate everyone who showed up at McGivneys for dinner, purchased a rack of ribs to take home and offered monetary donations, and we apologize to those who were not able to because we sold out early.

All proceeds from the barbecue will benefit programs and services in Southeast Alaska: summer camp (Camp K) for children will Type 1 diabetes; provide materials and programs to support hospitals, clinics, and health fairs; and education and referral services to patients, health care providers and families.

A special thanks to McGiveney’s Sports Bar & Grill, Randy Sutak of Randy’s Rib Shack, Teddy’s Tasty Meats (Anchorage), Super Bear IGA, Jerry’s Meats and Seafoods, and the Alaskan Brewing Company for their generous support of our annual fundraiser.

Please thank these merchants and individuals for their continued support of this fun event.

Additionally, thank you to the Juneau Empire and the Juneau Radio Center for providing advertising support.
