This summer, the City Museum is hosting Family Days once a month for local families to visit the museum and enjoy a drop-in activity. Adults with children will receive free admission, and all are invited to participate in a free drop-in activity suitable for children ages 5-10.

The August Family Day will take place Saturday, Aug. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and it will be a part of the CBJ’s annual Day of Play. (For a full schedule of Day of Play events, check with the City Parks & Recreation Department.) Come check out the museum’s hands-on exhibits, try your hand at a scavenger hunt, play a round of I-Spy in our Juneau Businesses case, and enjoy the museum’s exhibits and its 26-minute film on Juneau’s history “Juneau: City Built on Gold,” which plays on the hour and half-hour. For the next Family Day, Sept. 17, there will be a special activity as a part of the Juneau Public Libraries’ Big Read project.

The Juneau-Douglas City Museum fosters among its diverse audiences an awareness of Juneau’s cultural heritage, values and community memory so we may draw strength and perspective from the past, inspire learning, and find purpose for the future. As a public trust, the museum collects, preserves, interprets, and exhibits those materials that document the cultures and history of the Juneau and Douglas area.

More information about the City Museum can be found on the museum’s website: www.juneau.org/library/museum. The City Museum is located at Fourth and Main streets, and the phone number is 586-3572. Summer hours are: Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Summer admission is $6 for general admission, $5 for ages 65 and older, and FREE for ages 12 and younger and Friends members at the Family level and higher.
