United Way of Southeast Alaska recently received a campaign gift from Avista, the parent company of Alaska Electric Light and Power.
Jessie Wuerst, senior communications manager of Avista, and Tim McLeod, general manager of AELP, presented United Way of Southeast Alaska with a check for $2,000 in support of the organization and the work they do in the community, according to a Jan. 13 press release from United Way.
Avista and AELP employees continue their giving as a proud tradition. Avista and AELP have a deeply rooted belief in giving back to the communities they serve. The company encourages and supports employee volunteerism in the community.
“As the parent company of AELP, Avista is proud to be a partner in the Juneau community where organizations like United Way are making a real difference in the lives of residents,” Wuerst said. “As a convener, facilitator and supporter, United Way of Southeast Alaska has brought significant value to human care programs and services across the region.”
In accepting the gift, Mark Mesdag, chair of the board for United Way of Southeast Alaska, noted the longtime support of AELP and its employees, saying “it is the generous support of employees that allows United Way to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community. By bringing people together to help more Southeast Alaskans stay healthy, find good jobs, and increase their earnings, we’re improving individual lives and communities one at a time.“
United Way of Southeast Alaska’s campaign annually raises funds to support the United Way’s mission of improving lives and communities in Southeast Alaska as well as the work of its 35 partner agencies.
