Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation donated $36,036 to Bartlett Regional Hospital’s Bartlett Beginnings on Nov. 10 for the purchase of 400 baby boxes, launching the Baby Box Program.
In a news release, Bartlett Foundation said this donation was made possible through proceeds from the foundation’s 2015 Seafood Gala Fund-a-Need contributions, a grant from First Bank and the Baby Jack Treadwell Memorial Fund, a fund dedicated to meeting pediatric needs at Bartlett Regional Hospital.
Bartlett Foundation said the baby box is a starter kit containing baby clothes, first aid items, educational materials, blankets and toys. It can also be used as a bed that helps protect babies from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and to provide safe sleep. For 75 years, Finland’s expectant mothers have been given a baby box, helping it achieve one of the world’s lowest infant mortality rates. Baby boxes are expected to be available for all babies born at Bartlett Hospital starting in 2016.
