The 21st annual Great Backyard Bird Count starts today and goes through Feb. 19.
Help the Juneau Audubon Society catalog and track local bird populations in your backyard, local park, or wherever you spot a bird and submit your observations online.
Here’s how to participate: First, visit birdcount.org and create a free account. Then count birds for at least 15 minutes during the four days of the count. Count as many birds in as many places as you want. Keep track with a checklist for each day and each new location. Estimate the number of individuals of each species seen during the count period.
To complete your count, enter your results on the GBBC website by clicking the “submit observations” tab on the home page. You may also download the free eBird mobile app to enter data on a mobile device. If you already participate in the eBird citizen-science project, please use eBird to submit your sightings during the GBBC.
Bird ID help can be found at the bird count website.
