In late September and early October, lots of rocks and gravel was laid on trails in the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area, specifically near Dredge Creek and Crystal Lake, in areas that are prone to flooding. The Beaver Patrol, under an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service, purchased, transported, spread and tamped 32 tons of rock and gravel on those trails to reduce the likelihood of trail floods. They were assisted by eight members of the local Coast Guard District 17 who provided willing and stalwart help on several days. The Beaver Patrol (a registered nonprofit organization) wishes to say a hearty thank you to the Coast Guard personnel who donated their time and effort to this enterprise.
