Beginner bridge lessons offered in Juneau

The Juneau Bridge Club is offering a 9-week beginner bridge class starting Feb. 2 in downtown Juneau from 6-8 pm. Cost is $40, which includes the textbook.

Bridge is a partnership game played worldwide by people of all ages and backgrounds. If you can count to 13 and enjoy playing games or cards, this class is your entry point to an endlessly rewarding and challenging game.

The class is taught by long time bridge enthusiasts Jan Moyer and JBC President Rory Darling. The class follows a textbook that provides a useful reference and interactive lessons that step through introductory bidding and play in a format that incorporates hands-on class exercises. The emphasis is on enjoyment and partnership harmony. As a result of taking the class, students will have enough fundamental bridge skills to play social bridge anywhere there are 3 other players.

The class assumes no prior knowledge of bridge but also works for those wanting a refresher. There is no need to come with a partner. To register for the class, call 957-6972.

The Juneau Bridge Club is affiliated with the American Contract Bridge League and has been active in southeast Alaska since the early 1970s. It hosts two duplicate games per week (Wednesday at 6:30 pm and Sunday at 1 pm) and provides a framework for participation in local, regional, national, and international bridge competition. Additionally, contract bridge is played at the senior center on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
