The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will soon offer its first “Beyond BOW” class in Southeast Alaska — a basic hunter education course. BOW, a popular springtime event at Echo Ranch in Juneau, stands for “Becoming an Outdoors-Woman.” Versions of it are offered across the country.
The course will provide training in firearms safety and wildlife conservation, as well as respect for natural resources, landowners and other hunters. First, students will complete an independent study course; second, they will have a hands-on day at the range.
The field day is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 2. (BOW is this year scheduled for May 13-15.)
The Beyond BOW class is $15. Register at http://www.bow.adfg.alaska.gov, or contact Kristen Romanoff at 465-8547 or kristen.romanoff@alaska.gov with questions.
