The City Museum is offering two special evening historic walking tours for local residents, tour guides and visitors this month. Mike Blackwell will lead a tour from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10 and Brenda Wright will lead the other from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 11. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children ages 12 and under and may be purchased at the City Museum or by calling 586-3572.

The museum’s seasonal Historic Downtown Walking Tours will also be starting up in May. The first tour will be on Tuesday, May 9, and tours will run every week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through Sept. 21. All tours begin at 1:30 p.m. at the City Museum and last about one-and-a-half hours. The cost is $25 for adults and $20 for ages 12 and under. Reservations are recommended, and tickets can be obtained at the museum, through the museum’s website http://www.juneau.org/library/museum/walkingtour.php, or at the JACC.

These tours are great for locals and visitors alike to learn about the history and the changing landscape of downtown Juneau, and hear tales of prominent Alaskan figures and Juneau families from local guides. Tours include admission to the City Museum, a 20 percent discount in the museum’s gift shop and tea time at Alaska’s Capital Inn, the restored gold rush era home of John Olds. Walks take place rain or shine, and involve moderate activity, including stairs and inclines.
