Alaska Professional Communicators are offering two $1,000 scholarships for students planning a career in communications and majoring in any phase of public communications, including public relations, advertising, radio-television, video and print.
The Alaska Press Women Memorial Scholarship is open to men and women and is presented in memory of Alaska Press Women members who have died, such as Betzi Woodman, Kay Kennedy, Phyllis Carlson, Jimmy Bedford, Chris McClain, Jo Ann Wold, Natalie Gottstein, Elizabeth Plank, Suzan Nightingale, John Killoran, Bea Rose and Nancy Cain Schmidt.
Candidates must be currently enrolled college students with a promise in journalism or public communications fields, to whom the money will make a real difference and who is progressing well scholastically, though grades are not the primary consideration. Subjective evaluations by the student’s instructors or employers are more important.
The deadline is April 4. Find details at www.akprocom.org or contact scholarship coordinator Connie Huff at chuff@alaskapublic.org or 550-8464.
