Community potluck and film fundraiser set for Wednesday

]A community potluck and fundraiser will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 16 from 5-8 p.m. at St. Ann’s Parish Hall for Lisle Herbert’s “Yuuyaraq – The Way of the Human Being,” a film about the impacts of Western civilization on the Yupik people of Alaska.

Herbert has created an Indiegogo.com campaign with the goal of $10,000 for the film.

“There is no project of this type that does not need additional funding,” Peter Metcalfe, one of the event organizers, said in a statement. “This movie is Lisle’s passion, one that entered the ‘labor of love’ category weeks ago. It just seems like the right thing to do at this time of year to help him complete the movie. I know the fine people of Juneau will lean forward and contribute.”

The potluck has no admission fee. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and help fundraise for the film. There will be a silent auction and music performed by Steve Nelson. Herbert will give a brief talk and show some rough cuts of the film.
